Helping Women Light the Way: A Hanukkah Message

December 16, 2025

Dear Friends

Each night of Hanukkah, we use the shammash, or helper candle, to light the other candles. It is displayed more prominently than the other candles, but it is no more important. Like the shammash, the Hadassah Foundation’s primary role is to provide the fuel that enables others — our grant recipients — to shine, advancing gender equity in Israel and the U.S. Jewish community.

While the shammash lights eight candles, the Hadassah Foundation currently supports more than 20 organizations that are building a brighter future for women and girls.

Your generous year-end gift to the Hadassah Foundation is like the match that ignites the shammash. It will enable us to ensure our grantees have the resources they need to address today’s many challenges.

Wishing you a Happy Hanukkah,

Ellen S. Steinberg, Chair

Stephanie Blumenkranz, Director

and The Entire Hadassah Foundation Board & Staff
